It begins with the pick up from the hotel in Cusco (5:00 am) and transfer in tourist mobility to the village of Mollepata where we will have a stop to have breakfast and introduce all our team who will accompany us throughout the trek. Then we will move to Marqoq’asa where we will start the hike to the viewpoint where we can see 2 valleys (Mollepata, Marqoq’asa).
Then we will continue the hike to Soraypampa where we will have a well deserved lunch and then ascend for 1 hour-30 minutes to reach the Humantay lagoon (4,220 m.a.s.l.). After appreciating this beautiful place we will descend to Soraypampa.
DAY 2: Camp from Suyroccocha to Challway (Chaullay)
- Distance on foot: 22 km // Starting elevation: 3,800 m.a.s.l. // Elevation of the campsite: 2,750 m.a.s.l.
- Difficulty of trekking: Challenging // Lodging: Hut camps.
The second day you will have more hiking trail than on foot. While you work a little harder to get to the summit, the views at the top are even more amazing than we can see. Then it’s a pure downhill trail with full rocks, descending into a more reachable rainforest area at the far end of Salkantay Mountain.
A glass of hot Coca tea is served in their tents to soothe the cold morning. We prepare all our gear to begin this beautiful day of hiking to the Salkantay pass and experience the cloud forest and subtropical jungle day.
DAY 3: Challway to La Playa camp

- Difficulty of trekking: Easy // Lodging: Campsites.
It is a beautiful mountainous landscape in the morning, a natural green trail and reach up to La Playa; with some river tributary of the main river of the Sacred Valley of the Incas: The Urubamba.
Most of the time we will be near the white river of Salkantay, encountering on our hike a lot of wild strawberries (of course, if in season). Wild flowers, orchids, some birds, fruit passions, avocados, coffee trees, bananas, pineapples, etc. abound. The hike will last approximately 5 hours; the campsite is in the settlement of La Playa.
DAY 4: Llactapata Pass – to Aguas Calientes village
- Walking distance: 18 km // Starting elevation: 2,450 m.a.s.l. // Elevation of campsite: 2,000 m.a.s.l.
- Difficulty of trekking: Moderate to challenging // Lodging: Hotel.
We leave La Playa very early in the morning to avoid the humid sunstroke, to do some trekking towards our last pass of the whole trip. We follow the original Inca trail from Lucmabamba to Llactapata Pass, crossing the Santa Teresa Valley with a wider variety of landscapes (green nature and a quiet Inca trail).
Arriving at the Patallacta ruins, we have the first view of Machu Picchu and all the Andes mountains in the area which are incredible sights. We also explore the Llactapata Incan site. We then descend through lush bamboo and coffee forests (Aobamba Valley) along a trail back to Hydro (2 hours of extreme descent to the river bank).
From the Aobamba River, the road to Hydro is an easy walk to the village of Aguas Calientes “the last two and a half hours we follow the train track”.
DAY 5: MACHU PICCHU
- Machu Picchu elevation point: 2,430 meters above sea level.
- Difficulty of the activity: Moderate to challenging // Duration of the activity: Minimum of 2 to 5 hours exploring.
Breakfast and early transfer to go by tourist bus to Machu Picchu, the trip takes about 30 minutes. During the trip we will have an incredible view of the landscapes of the Sacred Valley of Urubamba and the Amazon jungle that gives you a small hint of how much Peru has to offer.
Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas”, you will have a pleasant guided tour to visit the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sundial “Intiwatana”, the Royal Quarter, the Temple of the Three Windows and several cemeteries.
Then, at the appropriate time, you will go down to the town of Aguas Calientes to take the train that will take you back to the village of Ollantaytambo and then we will take the mobility to Cusco.
