Itinerary at a glance

We begin the trip with a 2-hour drive to Mollepata, where we will enjoy a typical breakfast. Then, we will continue to Soraypampa, starting point of our hike to the Humantay Lagoon at 4,250 m.a.s.l., where the ascent takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once there, you will have time to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

Afterwards, we will descend to Soraypampa and head back to Mollepata for a local lunch. Finally, we will return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 18:00.

Itinerary

Day 1 Humantay Lagoon

Starting point

Pick up from your hotel 04:00 am (if the hotel is near the main square of Cusco, otherwise we will coordinate a meeting point).

Start: 04:30 am.

We will start our trip early in the morning with a tour of approximately 2 hours in tourist transport to the picturesque village of Mollepata, where we will enjoy a typical Andean breakfast to recharge our batteries.

After breakfast, we will continue by bus to Soraypampa, the starting point of our trek. In this place, our specialized guide will give us a brief briefing and give us time to get ready with the necessary equipment: walking sticks, water, backpacks, among others.

We will begin the hike to the impressive Humantay Lagoon, located at 4,250 meters above sea level. The ascent takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, surrounded by spectacular views of the Andes and the imposing presence of the snow-capped Salkantay.

Once at the lagoon, you will have enough time to enjoy the scenery, take pictures and recharge your energy in this magical place, considered sacred by the ancient Andean inhabitants.

After this unforgettable experience, we will begin our descent back to Soraypampa, where transportation will be waiting to take us back to Mollepata, where we will enjoy a delicious local lunch.

Finally, we will return to the city of Cusco, with an estimated arrival at 18:00.

Entrance to the Humantay Lagoon (can be purchased on site for S/.10.00 soles per person or USD.3.00 dollars approximately).
Restrictions: Not accessible for travelers in wheelchairs, pregnant women, people with heart conditions or other serious medical problems.
Physical condition: Travelers should have an average level of physical fitness.
Acclimatization: In order to fully enjoy the tour, we recommend acclimatization, arriving in Cusco 1 to 2 days before. It is entirely at the traveler’s discretion and responsibility if he/she decides to take the tour the same day he/she arrives in Cusco. Also, considering that it is an area of natural altitude, it is recommended to take pills for soroche (altitude sickness). The mates and infusions (ideally muña mate) in personal thermoses, are a very good option.

CHILDREN: Due to the type of activity (high altitude trekking) it is recommended for children from 12 years old.
